花木兰：Hua Mulan

花木兰是一位代替父亲参军的女英雄，在一首名为《花木兰歌谣》的中国著名诗中有所描述。尚不清楚这个故事是否有任何事实根据。这首诗写于北魏，最早记录在南北朝新旧音乐记录中。

Hua Mulan is a heroine who joined the army instead of her father and is described in a famous Chinese poem called Hua Mulan Ballad.  It is not clear whether the story has any factual basis.  This poem was written in the Northern Wei Dynasty and was first recorded in the old and new music records of the Northern and Southern Dynasties.

至于出生年代，姚莹在《康輶纪行》中说她是北魏孝文帝至宣武帝时人；宋翔凤的《过庭禄》中则说她是隋恭帝时人，程大昌的《演繁露》中则说她是唐初人。而根据北朝民歌《木兰辞》（又作《木兰诗》）等等的描述，对于花木兰的历史年代问题，目前有两种主要的民间说法是：

第一种说法是：北魏太武帝年间，花木兰替父从军，参加了北魏破柔然之战，木兰多次参与了北魏出击大漠兵伐柔然的战争，且表现突出，但却无人发现她是女子。战争结束后，朝廷欲授予她尚书郎，被她婉言拒绝。

第二种说法是：这种说法来自于清朝褚人获的小说《隋唐演义》。隋恭帝义宁年间，突厥犯边，木兰女扮男装，代父从军，征战疆场多载，屡建功勋。后与窦线娘交战被擒，线娘验明她女性身份，与之结为姐妹。

窦建德兵败，线娘请花木兰送信给罗成，木兰途中回乡探望父母，不巧被可汗得知花英雄为女儿身，要招其入宫。花木兰将书信交于妹妹花又兰，托她代为送信后自刎身亡。（《隋唐演义》第56、57、60回）

花木兰最早出现于南北朝一首叙事诗《木兰辞》中，该诗约作于南北朝的北魏，最初收录于南朝陈的《古今乐录》。僧人智匠在《古今乐录》称：“木兰不知名。”长300余字，后经隋唐文人润色。

巾帼英雄花木兰雕像明代文学家徐渭将《木兰诗》改编为《雌木兰替父从军》，剧中自称“妾身姓花名木兰，祖上在西汉时，以六郡良家子，世住河北魏郡。俺父亲名弧字桑之，平生好武能文，旧时也做一个有名的千夫长。

”自此，木兰的父亲叫花弧，姐姐叫花木莲，弟弟叫花雄，母亲是花袁氏。清代《曲海总目提要·雌木兰》也说：“木兰事虽详载古乐府。按明有韩贞女事，与木兰相类，渭盖因此而作也。木兰不知名，记内所称姓花名弧及嫁王郎事，皆系渭撰出。”

祖冲之《述异记》、李亢《异志》皆提到木兰姓花。一说为木兰本姓朱，清康熙年间的《黄陂县志》曰：“木兰，本县朱氏女，生于唐初，……假男子代父从军，……至今其家犹在木兰山下。”

焦竑在其《焦氏笔乘》中也说道：“木兰，朱氏女子，代父从征。今黄州黄陂县北七十里，即隋木兰县。有木兰山、将军冢、忠烈庙，足以补《乐府题解》之缺。”但有木兰是姓魏的说法，也有一说为木兰姓韩。另据《新唐书》载：“少女木兰，姓任”。
